Suburban Train to AIFA Airport to Open to Public in Days

The Suburban Train to Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) is “a few days away from opening to the public,” confirmed Andrés Lajous, director general of the Integrated Trains and Public Transport Agency. The official, former Secretary of Mobility for Mexico City, confirmed that in a matter of days, passengers will be able to use the service that runs from Buenavista in the Cuauhtémoc borough to the Santa Lucía airport, a journey of approximately 40 minutes. His social media message came after President Claudia Sheinbaum postponed the inauguration of the Suburban Train, which was originally scheduled to open before Holy Week. What do we know about the inauguration of the Suburban Train to AIFA? Andrés Lajous reported on Saturday, April 11, that along with the team from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), Banobras, and the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), they inspected the Suburban Train to check the stations on the branch line that runs from Lechería, on the border of Tultitlán and Cuautitlán Izcalli, to AIFA. We are a few days away from opening the service to the public 🚊 With teams from @TrenesMX, @SICTmx, @Suburbanos, @Defensamx1, @Banobras_mx and companies, we took a trip on the train from Buenavista to @aifaaero where we reviewed each station on the Lechería-#AIFA branch. In a video he posted on his social networks, details of stations such as Teyahualco and AIFA can be seen, from the platforms to the station chief's office. The AIFA terminal shows several trains, similar to the Interurban Train that connects CDMX with Toluca, as well as other aspects like its fully lit facilities. However, on social media, aspects such as access points to the new stations in the State of Mexico and the increase in the price of the Suburban Train on its main branch from Cuautitlán to Buenavista have been criticized, with a cost of 26.50 pesos for the long journey. Regarding the inauguration, President Claudia Sheinbaum responded on March 31 that the project is still awaiting track certification to begin operations and that it would take weeks. However, it is possible that in the coming days the opening date, prices, and travel time for the Suburban Train project connecting Mexico City with AIFA will be announced.
